Empowering LCG Teachers with Mindful Practices

We value the importance of investing in professional development.

Twice a year, Learning Care Group (LCG) conducts company-wide Teacher In-Service Days. It is an important aspect of the care we provide to children and families across our community of schools. Each session offers comprehensive training, tools, and instruction for all teachers and staff to enhance their professional knowledge and capabilities in the classroom and beyond.

The session we held in February 2025 provided teachers with resources centered around mindfulness and how to respond to challenges with curiosity and compassion.

Staff had the opportunity to focus on behaviors that will boost their critical thinking skills and strengthen positive interactions, as well as create psychologically safe environments. Exercises also included an emphasis on developmentally appropriate practices, cybersecurity, and safety.

Here’s a look at how the training was organized for LCG employees in our schools:

Key Takeaways for Educators

  • The Power of Teacher Credibility
We welcomed experienced early educator, teaching consultant, and author, Dr. Kateri Thunder, as our keynote speaker. After listening to her valuable insight, teachers worked to explore the four characteristics of developing teacher credibility in the classroom through establishing trust, competency, dynamism, and immediacy.
  • Good Communication Practices
A second session by Dr. Thunder concentrated on Powerful Communication for All. Teachers discussed the importance of building and maintaining great communication skills with families and peers using collaboration, active listening, and a willingness to learn during each exchange.
  • Focus on Positive Behavior Support
Teachers worked to enhance their critical thinking skills in the classroom and practice how to successfully reframe and respond when handling challenging behaviors. LCG provides a variety of tools to teachers to help them support and reinforce positive behaviors. Team members learned about more helpful strategies that will help them react to situations with care and compassion while redirecting children to act in constructive ways.
  • Authentic Family Interactions
Forming trusting partnerships with each family is an essential part of every child’s journey to learn and grow with success. Our final sessions of the day focused on handling such interactions with care and respect giving teachers the tools they need to respond effectively to sensitive conversations.
